There are many different legends about holy water and in many traditions water is seen as a source of purity and life. Water, especially holy water, is believed to have healing and purifying powers.
In Siddha Yoga, it is known that everything, even elements like water, have consciousness. How is this to be understood? What is sacred water and what does it mean to consecrate water? Why can spending time near sacred places and waters bring peace and clarity, and help people achieve balance and peace of mind? Why does standing under a waterfall purify us, or listening to the sound of the sea create a natural connection that grounds us and relieves stress?
At the intersection of three sacred rivers in Prayagraj, India, an extraordinary event is taking place this year – the Maha Kumbhamela, where millions of people come together for a common spiritual purpose, to come closer to liberation or moksha. This event is also closely associated with holy water, and the choice of the location for the yogic purification procedures at the junction of the three sacred rivers is not accidental.
In the February session of the Path of Wisdom series, we will explore the rich and complex theme of sacred, as well as the following: There is a man-made lake in Lilleoru called Amrita – why is Amrita called the nectar of the gods? Why is the Ganga considered a sacred river and a source of purification? What rituals are associated with holy water and what effects do they have?
